TONY JONES: ….If I might I say so, that’s pretty much what you just said. Now you’ve repeated it. Anyway, is it the case that the three-year fixed price or carbon tax was actually a non-negotiable demand of the Greens Party?

GREG COMBET: No, that’s a load of drivel.

TONY JONES: Well, that’s a load of drivel that the Greens Leader, Christine Milne, suggested was the case on our program last week.

GREG COMBET: Well, I didn’t hear it, but that’s not true. We had a whole set of issues that we negotiated to secure package of it and that’s not the case.

TONY JONES: Well, I mean, Christine Milne said that the three-year fixed price was non-negotiable and they negotiated with the Government and it was part of the process, as you say, of getting these things through Parliament. Why distance yourself from these negotiations?

GREG COMBET: Well, I’m not distancing myself from it at all. I was in the room. I was the lead government negotiator and that is not at all my recollection of the situation.

TONY JONES: Well, then, perhaps you could explain it to us. Who came up with the three-year fixed price?

GREG COMBET: Well, I don’t think I do have to explain it to you. I explained a little while ago that to make major reforms you have to negotiate with other parties in our parliament, democratically elected, in order to secure passage of legislation through the Parliament and that’s what we did.

Many things were discussed. It’s a very comprehensive package of measures. They were discussed, negotiated, not just the Greens, but also with independent MPs.

TONY JONES: So, out of all of this, can you actually tell us where the three-year fixed price, as opposed to the one-year fixed price, which would have been well and truly over by the next election, if it were to happen on time, or on the appropriate time, who came up with a three-year price?

GREG COMBET: Well it was something that was discussed for some period of time in the room, but I actually don’t see a great degree in merit in trawling over it all. We had a set of negotiations, many issues were discussed, we agreed on a package at the end.

TONY JONES: What is the current global market price for a tonne of carbon?

GREG COMBET: It’s about $9 – Australian dollars in the European market at the moment….

When the ABC turns on the carbon tax, it really is a lost cause!

La Trobe University forced to pay the carbon tax for producing cleaner energy

More carbon tax stupidity has been revealed, La Trobe University has been placed on the list of liable entities that will be required to pay the carbon tax because they produce their own cleaner energy:

Also on the hit list is La Trobe University, which runs a co-generation plant to create heat and electricity from gas.

Robert Manne a prominent alarmist advocating for the carbon tax, who works at La Trobe University has responded to criticisms in the Australian (see Cut & Paste (12-13/5) article here) :

USING Gerard Henderson as its source, Cut & Paste (12-13/5) suggests I should be ashamed that I am employed at a university that was 131st of the nation’s top 500 carbon polluters.

La Trobe is on the list for the carbon tax because it produces its own energy from natural gas, a cleaner energy source than other fossil fuels. Our co-generation plant, which has operated since 1993, is twice as efficient as the brown coal generators that supply the rest of Victoria.

Although I had no role in the decision, the fact that we are powered by the cleanest burning fossil fuel is one reason that I am not ashamed, but proud to be a member of La Trobe University.

However this just shows how stupid the carbon tax regime is. An organisation investing in its own clearer energy “twice as efficient as the brown coal generators that supply the rest of Victoria” and the “cleanest burning fossil fuel” will now be slugged with a carbon tax bill for taking this substantial carbon reduction measure.

Furthermore other large entities will be less likely to generate their own electricity from gas, as they too may become a liable entity required to pay a multi-million dollar carbon tax bill.

It’s not just La Trobe University being penalised for producing cleaner energy, a bio fuel company will also be required to pay the carbon tax (see here). The carbon tax appears to be effectively stopping precisely what the carbon tax was supposed to encourage – a move to cleaner energy.

Tim Flannery’s latest spin: The Climate Commission’s reports make projections not predictions

After making endless dud predictions, Tim Flannery head of our Climate Commission has attempted to put a new spin on his dud predictions. When asked about the alarmist predictions in the latest Climate Commission report Tim Flannery says they’re not predictions but projections:

What stupid nonsensical rubbish and spin, as a projection is just a very uncertain prediction.

This is what the IPCC say the difference between a climate prediction and a climate projection is:

Climate Prediction: A climate prediction or climate forecast is the result of an attempt to produce a most likely description or estimate of the actual evolution of the climate in the future, e.g. at seasonal, interannual or long-term time scales.

Climate Projection: A projection of the response of the climate system to emission or concentration scenarios of greenhouse gases and aerosols, or radiative forcing scenarios, often based upon simulations by climate models. Climate projections are distinguished from climate predictions in order to emphasise that climate projections depend upon the emission/concentration/ radiative forcing scenario used, which are based on assumptions, concerning, e.g., future socio-economic and technological developments, that may or may not be realised, and are therefore subject to substantial uncertainty.

In other words the reports are ‘junk science’, The Climate Commission is un-willing to stand by these scenarios as fact or even as a likely outcome.

Furthermore the Climate Commission expects us to spend huge amounts of money, destroy our economy and impose green tape into everyone’s lives based on reports that are “subject to substantial uncertainty”.

If they don’t believe the scenarios in their own reports enough to call them predictions then why should we?

The United Nations is openly, actively and aggressively attempting to install a global network of carbon taxes and so called ‘clean energy’ bureaucracies that they control (see here, here, here, here ,here or here for examples).

Just so there is no mistaking who the newly launched Clean Energy Regulator in Australia is really working for, they have decided to use the United Nations colours for their logo, website and promotional video:

Is it just a coincidence that the very agency that will help implement the United Nations extreme green agenda in Australia has been branded with United Nations colours?

The Australian National University falsely claimed last year that their climate scientists needed to be moved to a secure location after receiving emails that contained death threats.

Simon who runs the “Australian Climate Madness” website made a FOI request for a copy of the emails, after the ANU refused to release the emails a privacy commissioner found that:

10 of 11 documents, all emails, “do not contain threats to kill” and the other “could be regarded as intimidating and at its highest perhaps alluding to a threat”.

As I suspected the emails were a mix of… differences of opinions, crazy ramblings and strongly worded opinions. Wind turbine blade producer is sponsoring the “CarbonKids” science program in Australian schools

This is a serious bias and conflict of interest; a company that produces blades and products for wind turbines is sponsoring the “CarbonKids” science program in our schools:

New climate in the classroom

CHILDREN are learning the science of climate change with a program that will be run at schools around Tasmania.

Students at Dominic College in Glenorchy yesterday did hands-on experiments at the launch of the CSIRO program, called CarbonKids Energy Curriculum Resources.

“CSIRO believes in the importance of engaging tomorrow’s decision-makers with the best possible climate science and we are working with teachers to introduce students to the basics of energy and climate,” said program manager Angela Colliver.

The CarbonKids workshops are sponsored nationally by Bayer and CSIRO. Schools registered in the program receive training and access to resources for primary and middle-school children.

For example remember the hysterical reaction some people had when they found that a small amount of money was donated by General Motors to the Heartland Institute (see here).

The carbon tax regime is so stupid it will tax a bio-fuel company

The green climate cults with their ridiculous propaganda and almost Marxist chants of “price on pollution and compensation for households” would have us believe that the carbon tax will only tax the “big evil polluters”. However, now that the list of ‘entities’ that will be required to pay the carbon tax has been revealed (here), the reality is that many local councils and essential services (like water and rubbish dumps), basically anything that provides us with a first world standard of living will be required to pay the carbon tax.

Surprisingly the carbon tax regime is so stupid it will require a bio-fuel company to pay the carbon tax, this was pointed out to Greens’ leader Christine Milne on Channel 10’s Meet the Press on Sunday:

HUGH RIMINTON: ….Shoalhaven Starches, which takes waste material from wheat and converts it to ethanol bio-fuel. They have just won international certification for sustainability for bio-fuels – you can’t get greener than that, a regional NSW business – it’s been hit with a Carbon Tax. Surely, that wasn’t your intention?

CHRISTINE MILNE: Well, anybody who is polluting – you have to be fair about this. If you are going to make rules saying that there is a limit and above that, you’ll pay, then that’s the case. We have to make sure that we help people become more efficient. Now, clearly, there are examples where people say, “well, why would they have to pay?” We want to ensure those people who are innovative – and clearly, that company is – can even get better into the future. I’ll look at some of these and talking to the Minister about it. But I’m confident that this is the driver to innovation. It’s the driver to new jobs. People see it always in terms of the negative – we want to see it in terms of the positive.

HUGH RIMINTON: If you were going to talk to the Minister, what might you say? Might you look to find some room for some companies, like Shoalhaven Starches, which are all about bio-fuels, replacing fossil fuels with bio-fuels – that they might be cut a little slack?

CHRISTINE MILNE: They won’t be cut slack in terms of the threshold. But in terms of how we can facilitate the other incentivised programs, particularly in the efficiency and renewables area, how can we use some of the other programs to assist companies to be more efficient?

HUGH RIMINTON: So they may get extra help somehow?

CHRISTINE MILNE: Well, actually I don’t know if they are aware of the other programs they could be using. There are lots of innovation funds and R&D funds – let’s have a look at those…..

Labor’s budget is about as honest as their ‘no carbon tax’ promise

The carbon tax was brought in with a lie and will be budgeted for with deception, this budget is so dishonest it has already been dubbed “fudget 2012” on social media.

The dishonesty of this budget was highlighted on Channel 10′s Bolt Report on Sunday, when Professor Judith Sloan pointed out that the tricks being used by the government to bring the budget back to surplus would be illegal in the private sector:

Prof. Judith Sloan: “Look I think one of the ironies is that in the company world that actually would be regarded as illegal, um there has been a requirement to consolidate accounts just precisely because putting things off balance sheet is a way of hiding things. So I thinks it’s certainly ironic that this government imposes accounting standards on the private sector which in effect it doesn’t comply with itself….”

This budget also includes bribes for families with school children and the carbon tax socialist wealth redistribution compensation while at the same time cutting back on much needed services.

The Gillard Government has released the names of the first 248 companies/entities that will pay the carbon tax. These companies/entities will now be at a competitive disadvantage to both their customers and their rivals. I also expect these companies/entities to be targeted by various climate (cult) groups, forced to lay off staff and some will eventually go out of business or will move offshore.
