BRITISH climate change sceptic Christopher Monckton has lashed out at the Australian media, governments and climate scientists for failing to question the ”scam” of global warming, claiming Julia Gillard’s proposed carbon tax will push Australia into economic oblivion.

This global warming scam represents the biggest transfer of wealth and power in human history – from the poor to the rich, from the weak to the strong, from the little guy to the big guy.

Academics attempt to stop  Christopher Monckton speaking at a University. I hope these same academics also write letters to stop Al Gore from speaking as he is also not a Climate Scientist .

More than 50 Australian academics signed a letter urging Notre Dame University to cancel the speech, arguing that Lord Monckton “stands for the kind of ignorance and superstition that universities have a duty to counter”.
The university’s business school dean, Chris Doepel, refused to cancel the event and said it was vital to policy development that different views on contentious issues be heard.

Christopher Monckton talks about wind farms

Lord Monckton yesterday described wind farm technology as useless, polluting and expensive.

“Windmills are highly problematic – they have nothing whatever to give in terms of changing the world’s weather or climate and they are very expensive,”

“In the end, because of the concrete bases you have to build; the burning of the lime to make the concrete, emits more carbon dioxide per wind mill than that wind mill is likely to save in its lifetime.”

Get up members and others campaign to have Christopher Monckton tour cancelled. It is a sad day in Australia when groups campaign against someone’s freedom of speech.

The Brisbane Bronco’s Leagues Club decided yesterday to withdraw their venue from his nationwide speaking tour….Since this news broke, event organizer Andy Semple has had numerous Broncos’ club members call and to tell him that they are extremely disappointed that the club withdrew the venue.

Three  German clubs have cancelled Moncktons speaking tour over “Nazi” Jibe, I hope these same clubs ban anyone who uses the word “denier”.

GERMAN Clubs in three states have cancelled speeches by controversial climate sceptic Lord Christopher Monckton in protest over his suggestion that economist Ross Garnaut was a Nazi.

German Club president Edmund Reichmann said the venue would not host a speaker who used Nazi imagery to attack a public figure unfairly.
”They said that he had apologised, but the apology is not accepted,” he said. ”We can’t accept any speaker under those circumstances.”

Leon Ashby, president of the Climate Sceptics Party that has partly sponsored Lord Monckton’s Australian speaking tour, said replacement venues had been organised in all cities except Melbourne.

Spencer clashes with Monckton live on air (linked story contains the audio of the radio interview)

ABC radio presenter Adam Spencer has been told to “shut up” and stop being childish during a heated on-air exchange with climate change skeptic Christopher Monckton.

In what was more a debate than an interview on 702 ABC Sydney, Spencer hung up on his guest before Monckton called back and the interview resumed.

Sky News reports that GetUp pulls power cord halfway through Monckton speech.

If Australia introduces a carbon tax it will become a “third world banana monarchy”, climate change skeptic Christopher Monckton said on the eve of the government’s policy announcement.

Speaking at a rally of those against the tax in Sydney’s Hyde Park on Saturday, Lord Monckton said Prime Minister Julia Gillard was destroying her own country.

Halfway through his speech the microphone power was lost, and the political group GetUp! was later blamed for pulling the power plug. But GetUp’s deputy national director Sam Mclean said the group was not responsible for the outage.

A placard with the words “Get Up” and “Stooge” with an arrow drawn to point at Lord Monckton was accepted by him as a gift and he accused the group of “naked left-wing political interference in the right of somebody who was invited to your country to speak freely”.

He said the silencing of opponents in this way had also happened in 1930s Germany.

(In full) Media Release by Lord Monckton: Gillard’s Tax on “Carbon Pollution” – the Facts

If the Australian Government’s proposal to oblige 500 big “polluters” to engage in what the City of London calls “trading hot air” were to achieve its stated aim of cutting 5% of Australia’s CO2 emissions by 2020, and assuming HM Treasury’s 3.5% pure-rate-of-time-preference commercial discount rate for inter-temporal investment appraisals –

• By 2020, CO2 in the air would be 411.987 parts per million by volume, compared with 412 ppmv if no action were taken.
• Global warming forestalled by 2020 would be 0.00007 C°: i.e. 1/14,000 C°.
• 0.00007 C° is 1/700 of the threshold below which modern instruments and methods cannot detect a global temperature change at all.
• At this rate, total cost of the carbon tax/trade policy will be not less than $127 billion between now and 2020, not counting gasoline and power price hikes.
• If all the world’s measures to cut greenhouse-gas emissions were as cost-ineffective as the Australian Government’s proposed policy, forestalling just 1 C° of global warming would cost the world $1.7 quadrillion.
• Forestalling all of the 0.24 C° global warming predicted by 2020 would demand almost $60,000 from every man, woman and child on the planet.
• That cost is equivalent to almost 60% of global GDP to 2020.
• That is 22 times the maximum estimate of the welfare loss from doing nothing about the climate, which is just 2.7% of global 21st-century GDP.
• It is 83 times the minimum welfare-loss estimate of just 0.7% of GDP.
• Garnaut’s 1.35% and 2.65% inter-temporal discount rates are very low by usual economic standards, artificially making the cost of action seem less costly compared with the cost of inaction than it really is. However –
• Even at Garnaut’s artificially low discount rates, the cost of the Gillard policy would be 7.6 to 15 times the cost of doing nothing about climate change.
• At the 5% discount rate recommended by President Dr. Vaclav Klaus of the Czech Republic for climate-related appraisals, the cost of doing what Gillard proposes would be 36 times the maximum cost of doing nothing.
• For most Australian households, the $10.10/week benefit from the Gillard scheme will exceed the $9.90/week cost, providing no disincentive to emit.
• For 500 big “polluters” (CO2 is not a pollutant, but plant-food to green the planet), compensation plus higher prices provide no disincentive to emit.
• Thus, all the above calculations overstate the scheme’s cost-effectiveness.

Bottom line: It is many times more costly to try to prevent global warming by Gillard’s methods than to adapt in a focused way to the predicted consequences of global warming.

Conclusion: Mitigation policies cheap enough to be affordable will be ineffective: policies costly enough to be effective will be unaffordable. It is unlikely that any policy to forestall global warming by regulating, reducing replacing, taxing or trading greenhouse-gas emissions will prove cost-effective solely on grounds of the welfare benefit foreseeable from global-warming mitigation. No such benefit is discernible.

High abatement costs, and the negligible returns in warming forestalled, imply that focused adaptation to the consequences of such future warming as may occur will prove more cost-effective than any attempted mitigation. The opportunity cost of diverting trillions of dollars to mitigation is heavy. Therefore, the question arises whether mitigation should be attempted at all.

Christopher Monckton challenges Malcolm Turnbull to a debate – “Challenge to an absolute banker”

The Viscount Monckton of Brenchley, following what the great Alan Jones has described as his “6-0, 6-0, 6-0 victory” over the director of the Australia Institute in a debate about the climate at the National Press Club in Canberra early this week, has today issued the following challenge to Malcolm Turnbull, the former leader of the Liberal/National Coalition, whom his party recycled last year for his naïve belief that “global warming” is some sort of “global crisis” –

Whereas one Malcolm Turnbull, Member of Parliament for Goldman Sachs, self-appointed leader of the Absolute Bankers’ Get-Rich-Quick, Gimme-the-Money, Subsidy-Junkies’, Profiteers’-of-Doom and Rent-Seekers’ Vested-Interest Coalition Against Hard-Working Taxpayers, has this day demonstrated wilful but indubitably profitable ignorance of elementary science by declaring that since all relevant matters of climatology are settled no one should pay any heed to a mere Peer of the Realm who dares to question the imagined (and imaginary) scientific “consensus” to the effect that unless the economies of the West are laid waste and destroyed we are all doomed;

And forasmuch as it is easy to identify the said Turnbull’s aircraft when it arrives at Canberra Airport because when the engines are turned off the whining carries on;

Now therefore I, The Right Honorable Christopher Walter, by the Grace of God and Letters Patent under the Hand and Seal of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second (whom God preserve) Third Viscount Monckton of Brenchley, do by these presents challenge the said Absolute Banker to a Debate on live television, during which each party shall have the opportunity to state his case and to examine the other’s case, with a view to informing Hard-Working Taxpayers and allowing them to decide for themselves whether the truth is being told by me or by the said Member for Goldman Sachs, upon whom I call to take up this challenge, if he dares.
